    Financial Management

    About

Develop your understanding of financial markets in the contemporary economy, the operation of financial institutions and the financial management of business operations. A major in financial management will prepare you for a career in banking, corporate financial management, financial planning and services, insurance and real estate. Our students learn the financial language of business and how to assess, measure and report on the profitability and financial health of an organization. Governments of all levels also employ finance graduates in many of their divisions and many of our students continue their studies in graduate or law school. A Bachelor of Science in financial management from Clemson will give you the necessary skills to gather, analyze and communicate financial data as required for a successful career within the discipline.

All students interested in Clemson's financial management degree must first complete a pre-business core curriculum with a 2.0 GPR in order to move into the upper-level degree classes. On the Clemson admissions application, you'll apply as a pre-business major.

Once that pre-business curriculum is completed, your classes will cover a broad range of subjects, but will emphasize technical and communication skills. You'll have the flexibility to tailor courses to your needs by choosing emphasis areas that will enhance career preparation in specific areas of finance. We offer four emphasis areas, so you'll be able to focus your studies on a financial topic that interests you the most.

Financial Planning Emphasis: Learn how to determine whether and how an individual can meet their goals through the use and management of financial resources. Once you complete a specific set of courses, you'll be eligible to sit for the certified financial planner (CFP) examination.

Real Estate Emphasis: Discover how to provide analysis and advice on the acquisition, sale, or management of both commercial and residential real estate.

Corporate Finance Emphasis: Learn how to be an analyst responsible for capital investment valuation, financing analyses, financial forecasting, business performance and assessment or reporting.

Banking and Investments Emphasis: To prepare you for your career, you'll be armed with the analysis and sales skills needed for involvement in analysis, management or sales within a bank or investment company.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

For the 2022 admissions cycle, Clemson has adopted a test-optional policy. Applicants are not required to submit a standardized test score to be considered for admission to Clemson for the 2022-2023 academic year.

If you choose that test scores should be used, your scores must be submitted electronically by the respective testing agency. Clemson’s institutional code for SAT is 5111, and the code for ACT is 3842. Clemson super-scores both the SAT and the ACT. For the SAT, this means that the overall total SAT score will then be derived by taking the highest of the evidence-based reading and writing/math scores.

According to The ACT, superscoring at Clemson means that we “consider a student’s highest ACT section (or subtest) scores regardless of test date. The super composite ACT score is calculated as the average of the best ACT English, Reading, Math, and Science subject scores and is used as one of multiple factors in admission and financial aid.”

    English Program Requirements

English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or DuoLingo. Clemson’s institutional code is 5111. Note: Transfer applicants attending U.S. institutions who have passed English composition courses I and II that are equivalent to Clemson University’s ENGL 1030 with a grade of “B” or better are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement. The test can also be waived for students where English is the primary language or one of the official languages.
