Folklore and Ethnography

This 15-credit graduate certificate program offered at Penn State Harrisburg provides students with skills and practices used in projects and institutions of folklore and ethnography, which include field/folk schools and other educational settings, festivals and arts councils, historical and heritage societies, community and cultural organizations and centers, archives and record management programs, governmental agencies, cultural conservation/sustainability groups, and media production companies.

1. Gain knowledge of folklore and ethnography studies field, including its history, scope, theories, and methods.
2. Provide skills applicable to folkloristic and ethnographic work, such as fieldwork, archives and records management, oral presentation, writing, and media design.
3. Provide opportunities for hands-on experience in folkloristic and ethnographic practices such as ethnographic coding and interviewing; archival processing; festival and public programming; cultural resource management.

Degree Requirements and Academic Credentials:
4-6 year Bachelor's Degree.
Official transcript; official certification of degree and date awarded; documents required in English only. Documents must be issued by the school with the official stamps and signature.
