German-French Graduate School: Conflicts of Cultures / Cultures of Conflict

    About

The graduate school facilitates interdisciplinary and bilateral access to research on conflicts. It is based on the assumption that our modern societies have become much more heterogeneous and atomised due to the emergence of new systems of interaction, migration and mobilisation that converge in the phenomenon of globalisation. This process has impacted on our ways of living and hence on our language as well as on literary and artistic production. The study of conflicts, translated into these altered forms of expression, thus requires a new reading of cultural theories and of cultural products. This incorporates for instance the following analysis: conflict in various cultural theories existing French-German conflicts on the level of modern historical events presentation of conflicts in French and German texts and visual culture PhD projects should ideally contribute to putting an end to totalising concepts of cultures.
