Graduate Certificate in Building Information Modelling and Integrated Project Delivery

    About

Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) represent the future of the construction industry.

Developed in response to the challenge of lost productivity, budget blow-outs, time over-runs and waste that plagued major construction projects, IPD is a way of managing projects so that every member of the building team work collaboratively throughout the construction process.

The sharing of information between these team members is made easier by the growing use of BIM – a process of creating and managing information on a construction project whereby every aspect of the build asset has a digital description that becomes part of the ‘model’.

This program is fully accredited by buildingSMART Australasia, and has been designed in close collaboration with industry to prepare graduates for leadership roles in consultancies, client organisations, and contracting organisations. All program components align with the BIM framework of buildingSMART Australasia, the open standards of buildingSMART international, the principles espoused by the Lean Construction Institutes of Australia, the UK and the USA, and internationally recognised principles of IPD.

The graduate certificate is the first step of an articulated postgraduate pathway. You can continue your studies taking an additional four coursework subjects to earn a graduate diploma and a final capstone project (40 credit points) for the full master’s qualification.

    Career

What can you do with your degree?

The Queensland Government recently decided that all infrastructure projects costing more than $50m are to be delivered using Building Information Modelling.

This is just one indicator that the design and delivery of construction and infrastructure projects is moving to another level, and that means opportunity can be expected to increase. Increasingly, clients are requiring that their medium and large construction and infrastructure projects be delivered using Building Information Modelling and Integrated Project Delivery systems.

Bond’s suite of postgraduate programs in Building Information Modelling ((BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) has been designed to prepare you to serve the immediate and long-term needs of government and industry as they continue to develop infrastructure and construction projects for the benefit of community.

    Outcomes

    BIM project manager

The BIM project manager (PM) is a specialist PM who has a solid knowledge of all aspects of BIM and accordingly is proficient at managing all specialist professionals who are required to work on complex projects in the BIM design and construction environment. They have an understanding of:

    • intellectual property rights
    • the use of model-generated documents and files
    • application of augmented reality and virtual reality software
    • advanced software used to integrate data into to utilise in PM.

    BIM (schedule) consultant

A BIM schedule consultant has a solid overview knowledge of all aspects of BIM and an in depth understanding of the use of specialist software to get the best possible schedule outputs using BIM data for specific projects. The BIM schedule manager is an important member of all project teams preparing documentations for complex BIM centric projects.

    5D BIM (cost) consultant

A 5D BIM consultant is an expert in cost management in the BIM environment, and uses specialist cost management software, combined with a solid understanding of software from other specialist areas of the BIM environment to contribute to superior outcomes in BIM-centric design and construction on large and/or complex projects. The BIM cost manager is an important member of all project teams preparing documentations for complex BIM centric projects.
