    Overview

    Gain the skills to better support the needs of students with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia.

    You’ll improve your professional knowledge and understanding of the nature and causes of specific learning difficulties in children. Enhance your skills in classroom assessment, goal-setting, instructional choices and responsiveness to learning difficulties as you learn how to implement teaching that optimises student learning.

    Flexible study

    This course is offered part-time and 100% online so you can balance study with work and other commitments.

    The Faculty of Education is home to a number of internationally recognised education experts, and at the cutting edge of teaching and research.

    Pathways

    Graduates of this course may be eligible for 50 credit points of advanced standing towards the Master of Learning Intervention.

    Admission criteria

    To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

    • A four-year degree in education (or equivalent), OR
    • A three-year undergraduate qualification in any discipline AND a fourth-year level education qualification (or equivalent), OR
    • A three-year undergraduate qualification in a directly related discipline AND at least two years of documented relevant work experience.

    Disciplines directly related to this course include occupational therapy, social work, speech pathology, or psychology.

    Work history relevant to this course may include in roles such as a classroom teacher, or in the above fields.

    All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. This may be achieved in a number of ways, including recognised previous study taught and assessed entirely in English or an approved English language test.     • Critically review a range of published resources and research relevant to understanding and addressing learning difficulties.
    • Exhibit skills that impact practice in their setting and share knowledge with others, including their colleagues.
    • Translate research to practice for learners with learning difficulties, including dyslexia and dyscalculia.
