    Entry Requirements

    Admission criteria

    To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

    • A four-year degree in education (or equivalent) OR an undergraduate qualification in any discipline AND at least 100 credit points (or equivalent) of graduate study in education, AND
    • a major in a language other than English (or provide a statement of equivalence)

    In addition to the above entry criteria, you must also be eligible for teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Contact the VIT to determine your eligibility.

    English language requirements

    All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. This may be achieved in a number of ways, including recognised previous study taught and assessed entirely in English or an approved English language test. If you are from a non-English speaking background, the required standard of English for this degree is one of the following English proficiency test scores:

    • If you need to undertake an English language test, you must meet one of the scores* below:

      with writing 27; speaking 18; reading 13; listening 13

  • Career

    Graduates with Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration will be eligible to apply for Language teaching positions within Victorian schools. You'll finish the course with the ability to critique and manage language curricular and resources which are culturally and linguistically appropriate. In the wider education field, you’ll be able to promote social justice, employability, career awareness, wellbeing and citizenship through educational policy and practice.

    Applicants are encouraged to contact the VIT to determine eligibility if they do not already hold current registration.
