    About

    The programme develops the skills in the graduate to create, maintain, and improve health and safety in the workplace by ensuring that safety policies, practices and legislation are followed in order to prevent accidents and health problems.

    A strong focus of the programme is on the impact of personal behaviour in the assurance of a safe work environment.

    This approach adds to the traditional approaches and seeks to co-create a safety culture in the organisation in which everyone feels empowered and responsible.

    An application approach is taken to skills development for participants, which will involve:

    • Preparing health and safety policy
    • Carrying out risk assessments
    • Working with a range of people to provide a safe working environment
    • Keeping up to date with new legislation
    • Advising on specialist areas such as fire regulations
    • Keeping records of incidents and accidents
    • Developing materials and training employees

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants are normally expected to hold an NFQ level 8 primary honours degree (minimum H2.2), or equivalent and have at least 3 years of relevant industrial experience. Applicants will be required to undertake a short process safety assignment to satisfy the course admission team that they have the motivation and ability to complete and benefit from this course.

    Alternative Entry Route: Candidates who do not meet the minimum entry criteria can be evaluated under the UL RPL policy and may be interviewed to ascertain their suitability for the programme.

    • Applicants who do not have English as their first language may satisfy English Language requirements:
    • If your qualifications have been obtained in a country where English is an official language this will suffice
    • If this is not available, the following additional documents must be provided:
    • English translation of your qualification(s)/transcripts AND
    • English language competency certificate

    English Program Requirements

    DUOLINGO

    • The minimum requirement will be a DET score of 120 with no less than 110 in any component.
    • An interview may be required in conjunction with this for certain programmes.

    TOEFL580 (paper based) or 90 (internet based)

    IELTS

    Minimum score of 6.5* with no less than 6.0 in any component.
    *Please note some programmes have a higher IELTS requirement.
