    About

    Course overview

    This is a direct entry into the final year of our Healthcare Science (Audiology) Degree Apprenticeship BSc (Hons) programme, is designed specifically for student apprentices who have previously completed the Foundation Degree in Hearing Aid Audiology FDSc at Aston University, or a similar course at a recognised UK institution.

    You’ll gain direct entry into the final year of our BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Audiology) course, where you will learn a blend of healthcare sciences, audiology, clinical practice and applied research methods. By continuing to work full-time while you study; you will be able to earn while you progress in your career.

    Throughout your time at Aston, you’ll learn a range of skills like; how to test the hearing of newborn babies, how to help people hear with cochlear implants, and how to test a patient’s hearing by looking at their brain waves.

    In addition to carrying out routine audiology practice, your employer MUST arrange your placement access to the specialist areas of vestibular sciences and paediatric audiology.

    Healthcare Science (Audiology) BSc

    What you will provide
    It is important you learn how to adapt a growth mindset to your studies - understand that intelligence and success come from applying yourself, you must be able to demonstrate critical thinking and have ambition and drive to excel.

    What skills we teach
    As an Audiology student in our Healthcare Science (Audiology) programme, you will learn the skills to work as a competent audiologist and work in hospitals and health clinics, assessing people’s hearing and balance, and managing conditions such as hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders.

    During your time of the course, you’ll develop a wide variety of integral skills including verbal and written communication, presentation, team working and time management. You will also become familiar with IT and clinically relevant technology, as well as develop your problem-solving, critical thinking and reflective skills.

    Integrated Clinical Learning in Practice (CLIP)
    You will benefit from extensive patient contact throughout the course within the university through Integrated Clinical Learning in Practice (CLIP). You’ll complete integrated clinical learning in practice in each academic year, helping you to deepen your knowledge while giving you the opportunity to put your communication and practical skills to use.

    A large proportion of your final year involves completing CLIP at external clinics, helping to prepare you for your first graduate role. Clinical Learning in Practice can take place in locations across the UK, and you will be fully supported by the Aston audiology team throughout.

Recent graduates have successfully secured careers with employers such as Boots, Specsavers, Hearwell Audiology Clinic, Hidden Hearing, and NHS including East Kent Hospitals, University NHS Foundation Trust, Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Wye Valley NHS Trust, and Royal Berkshire Foundation NHS Trust.

    Entry Requirements

    You can apply for a Masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Saudi Arabian University.

    You should have a GPA of 3.6/5.0 Or 2.7/4.0 overall or above from a Saudi Arabian university. The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Saudi Arabian university from which you have graduated.

    If you are applying for finance, engineering or science-based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

    Aston University is committed to ensuring that every student is fully prepared to take on the challenges of their Master's degree. As such, please note that if you achieve IELTS overall 6.0 (with no more than two bands at 5.5 and other bands at 6.0 or above) or an equivalent acceptable English Language Qualification you will be required to undertake a mandatory timetabled in-sessional English programme to be delivered by Aston University’s Centre for English Language and Communication.     Career prospects

    The ageing population means demand for hearing and balance assessment and treatment services is set to rise substantially over the coming years, so employment prospects are excellent.

    As part of the NHS Practitioner Training Programme in Neurosensory Sciences, our audiology course will provide you with the skills and qualifications required to work in the NHS as a Healthcare Scientist or Audiologist, or as a Hearing Aid Dispenser in the commercial sector.

    Graduates from our BSc Healthcare Science (Audiology) course enter a variety of careers in hospitals, community-based practice, audiological and neurosciences research, or other roles dedicated to improving hearing problems, and some undertake postgraduate courses.
