    HNC Equine Studies

    About

    This course will emphasise the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills you'll need for many roles in equine industry.

    You'll learn about nutrition, fitness, anatomy and physiology, as well as equine facility and yard management. 

    A mixture of theoretical and practical study also covers essential business skills, like IT, communication and teamwork.

    Upon completion of this course, you could transition into the HND equine course for a further year of study, or choose to move into a variety of roles in the equine sector, such as working in training yards, studs, equipment supply companies, racecourses, livery yards, hospitality and more .

    The course offers Riding or Non-Riding options at both campuses.

    This course offers a mixture of practical and theoretical subjects in the care, physiology, selection and preparation of horses, as well as practical and transferable business skills.

    Throughout the course you'll develop the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills you need to take on a variety of roles in the equine industry.

    You'll gain an understanding of nutrition, fitness, anatomy and physiology, equine selection and preparing horses for competitions.

    You'll also gain practical business skills through modules like Equine Facility Management and Yard Management, as well as transferable skills like IT and teamwork.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Two Highers (CC), including a science or English, plus 2 weeks of practical work experience.

    National 5 (A-C) or equivalent pass in English and Maths.

    If you're applying for the riding version of the course, you'll need evidence of your riding ability. This should include a minimum of walk, trot, canter and jumping. To send your evidence, we ask that you either upload a video and share the link, or email it (depending on the size) to admissions@sruc.ac.uk.

    It would also be advantageous if you held BHS Stage 1 and 2, or the Pony Club B test.

    Successful completion of NC Horse Care or Advanced Certificate in Horse Care will also be considered.
