    HNC Surveying

    About

    If you want advanced employment in the construction industry, this HNC Surveying course will give you a high-level understanding of the design, function, construction and statutory requirements for buildings of all classes. Our Surveying HNC is highly regarded by employers because they is plenty of hands-on experience of the tasks and requirements that a construction professional faces. Whats more, successful completion of the HNC Surveying meets the academic requirements for entry to the Associate qualification of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). You will develop knowledge of building maintenance, quality assurance, maintenance management, construction techniques, building materials, building inspection, building services and contract procedures. If you successfully complete the HNC Surveying, you could top up your qualification to a professionally accredited Honours degree.

    Year One: HNC Surveying

    • Conceptual Modelling and Sustainable Design - 20 credits
    • Built Environment Practice and Procedure - 20 credits
    • Building Technology - 20 credits

     

    Year Two: HNC Surveying

    • Site Practice and Surveying - 20 credits
    • Building Law - 20 credits
    • Building Economics - 20 credits

    Teaching

    You will learn through a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials and site visits. You will also be involved in directed learning, presentations, assignments, tutorial preparation and problemsolving exercises.

    Assessment

    The Surveying HNC will be assessed by a mixture of coursework and exams. The course involves two years of part-time study, where you will attend the University for one full day a week.

    Career

    Graduates with a Surveying HNC can choose to progress their studies onto either a BSc in either Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management or Construction Project Management at USW.

    A Graduate with HNC Surveying could also find employment as a trainee in the areas of quantity surveying, site surveying, building surveying or project management in a number of sectors in the built environment. Starting salaries for trainee positions range from £16-20,000

    This includes: one-to-one appointments from faculty based Career Advisers, in person, over the phone or even on Skype and through email via the "Ask a Question" service.
