    • This structured one year course aims to cultivate students who are able to exercise personal responsibility and decision-making in the competitive tourism, hospitality and events industry. We aim for graduates who are able undertake further training, develop existing skills and acquire new competencies.

    • You have the opportunity to conduct research in the areas of hospitality, tourism or event management, which is equivalent to 40 credits.

    • Course overview

    • This one-year level 6 top-up course builds on your foundation degree, higher national diploma (HND) or equivalent studies with an emphasis on hospitality, tourism and/or events. Top up your existing skills by choosing either managing service innovation or leadership. Open the door to new career opportunities in the hospitality, tourism and events industries, in sectors such as hotels and resorts, restaurants and caterers, tourism destinations and attractions, airlines, cruises, spa management and environmentally sustainable tourism.

      Core modules

      • Leadership Practice (HRL6009)

        In this module, you will explore the role of leadership within organisations, including both the practical and theoretical aspects of leadership, and how such concepts can change over time. You will reflect on your own ability to act as a leader and your role in teamwork-based scenarios.

      • Researching for Business (STO6008)

        This module will empower you to understand the practical relevance of research methods for managing businesses by bringing the theory, philosophy and techniques of research to life. It will provide you with a comprehensive overview of research approaches in business to use when planning or undertaking a qualitative and/or quantitative research report.

      • Management Issues for the Events Industry (THE6001)

        This module develops student knowledge of the various approaches to event management when dealing with current global issues, concepts, and trends. The aim is to help learners appreciate the complexities of future scenario planning and how to best apply the findings to the events industry through reflection and application to different scenarios.

      • Hospitality Dynamics (THE6004)

        In this module, you will explore and reflect upon current concepts, trends, and issues related to the hospitality industry and management through a series of lectures and seminars presented by a variety of subject specialists.

      • Tourism Crisis and Disaster (THE6009)

        This module will equip you with a sound understanding of the principles and practice of economic, environmental and political crisis and disaster management in the tourism industry.

      Optional modules

      • Academic Skills for International Direct Entry Final Year Students (DEAS300)

        This module focuses on the study skills required for the study of business in UK HE for international direct entry final year students, it provides generic skills for students who are new to UK HE, such as information literacy, criticality, different types of assessment, assignment briefs, preparation and planning, and marking rubrics.

    Every undergraduate taught course has a detailed programme specification document describing the course aims, the course structure, the teaching and learning methods, the learning outcomes and the rules of assessment.

    Entry Requirements

    We require applicants to have completed the شهادة الدراسة الثانوية العامة Secondary School Certificate (Tawjihi) and a foundation year programme or equivalent. Our partner college on campus, University of Plymouth International College (UPIC), offers a wide variety of foundation courses.
