    About

Overview A grounding assumption of the program is that students with disabilities must have access to academic instruction and social learning that is available to all students.Students with no prior study in education, or with a certificate in another area, who are interested in working in supporting roles in grades 7-12 may apply to this program. Master’s degree candidates explore innovative approaches to modifying and adapting instruction, curriculum, and classroom structures to maximize active, meaningful participation of all learners.  I want to find another Master Course Students in the program participate half days during the Fall and Spring semester in area schools and collaborate on planning, assessment and teaching teams. This intensive fieldwork helps students connect theory and practice. Through coursework students build competencies in using alternative assessments, integrating instructional and assistive technologies, and meeting the social, communication and academic needs of students. Students also learn to regard individuals with disabilities as important sources of knowledge and planning, based on the perspectives of these individuals themselves. Why Inclusive Inclusive Special Education (Generalist) Grades 7-12 at Syracuse University?Complete your degree in one year of full-time study – no teaching experience or certification needed! We define inclusion broadly, developing teachers ready to work with the full range of learners in schools, including students with disabilities, students who are not native English speakers, LGBTQ youth, and students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. No existing teacher certification or background is required!Students are prepared to teach and co-teach in middle and high school settings in general education classrooms, fully including all students rather than relegating some to special classrooms or spaces.Participate in EDU Sims, which are standardized simulations of common interactions in classroom and school environments to help you identify your strengths and develop your professional skills. At least 4 field placements in a diverse range of settings including urban and suburban schools, in middle and high school classrooms, and other settings.Small student cohorts and a highly engaged alumni network mean you get to know your teachers and peers who will become your lifelong colleagues.Take part in School of Education short-term study abroad programs around the world.
