    About

    Our Industrial Economics with Placement Year course allows you to follow your interests and career aspirations by selecting from a wide range of optional modules alongside your core subjects.

    By undertaking a Placement Year, you will receive additional workshops in your first and second years, alongside professional advice from our dedicated Placements Team.

    You will spend year three in industry applying your skills in real-world business environments.

    You can apply for placements available to students on your course or can agree your own placement with an appropriate company. During your placement year, you remain fully registered with the University, with regular meetings with our dedicated Placements Team.

    Please note: To undertake an optional placement year, you will need to achieve the relevant academic requirements as set by the university and meet any requirements specified by the placement host. There is no guarantee that you will be able to undertake a placement as part of your course.

    Entry Requirements

    IB score: 34 Points overall or 666 in 3 HL certificates IB requirements:

    GCSE maths 6 (B) or above OR 5 in standard level or 4 in higher level maths

    IELTS:

    6.5 (no less than 6.0 in each element)

    As well as IELTS (listed above), we also accept other English language qualifications. This includes TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE, GCSE, IB and O level English. Check our English language policies and equivalencies for further details.

    For presessional English or one-year foundation courses, you must take IELTS for UKVI to meet visa regulations.

    If you need support to meet the required level, you may be able to attend a Presessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) course. Our Centre for English Language Education is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK.

    If you successfully complete your presessional course to the required level, you can then progress to your degree course. This means that you won't need to retake IELTS or equivalent.

    All candidates are considered on an individual basis and we accept a broad range of qualifications. The entrance requirements below apply to 2026 entry.

    Notes for applicants

    The school does not normally interview candidates. Our offers are made on the basis of the information contained in your UCAS application.

    We welcome applications from mature candidates and consider academic and professional backgrounds on an individual basis. We also consider alternative qualifications.

    Please note, we do not accept entry or transfer from another university into year two or above on any of our undergraduate degrees.

    RQF BTEC Nationals

    Three BTEC National Extended Certificates can be considered.

    • RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in any subject D*DD
    • RQF Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in any subject D*D plus 1 A level grade A
    • RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in any subject D plus 2 A levels grades AA

    Access to HE Diploma

    Access to HE Diploma 36 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 9 Level 3 credits at Merit.

    GCSE English

    GCSE English grade 4/C

    Visa restrictions

    International students must have valid UK immigration permissions for any courses or study period where teaching takes place in the UK. Student route visas can be issued for eligible students studying full-time courses. The University of Nottingham does not sponsor a student visa for students studying part-time courses. The Standard Visitor visa route is not appropriate in all cases. Please contact the university’s Visa and Immigration team if you need advice about your visa options.
