    Influencing Individual Health and Wellbeing

    About

    Do you want to learn more about the principles and approaches for working to improve individual health and wellbeing? This short course will explore the theories and models of behaviour change and the facilitating and inhibiting factors impacting on health behaviours. This short course will support you to create and evaluate interventions to influence health.

    This short course aims to provide you with the principles and approaches for working to improve individual’s lifestyles, health and wellbeing.

    We will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be able to critically examine the facilitating and inhibiting factors impacting on health behaviours. You will learn to appraise the models and theories of behaviour change. You will develop the skills required to evaluate a range of interventions and approaches designed to influence individual capacity for health.

    The course will be delivered online in a structured manner. The content of the module will include:

    • Behaviour change theories and models
    • Contextual, environmental, psychological and political factors influencing health and wellbeing
    • Social marketing, digital media and interventions
    • Communication skills

    Learning Methods

    This course will be delivered online using the University’s virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle.

    There will be a short online induction and introduction session followed by a structured timetable of topic content. Each topic will include directed study (reading, listening to podcasts and accessing other resources), online workshops, discussion fora and activities which you can study with a degree of flexibility Some activities (online workshops) will be delivered at a set time. You will be expected to interact in the online environment with your class mates and tutors.

    The module team will be there to support you through the module and clarify the expectations of the module assessment.

    Staff delivering on this course

    This module will be facilitated by a team from the School of Health Sciences drawing upon extensive practice-based experience, as well as delivery of online short courses.

    Assessment

    Typically students are assessed via written assignment, including essay.

    Independent Study

    This course is completed through online independent study. It is expected that you will spend a minimum of 150 hours study over the 8 weeks of the module, including the preparation and submission of your written assessment. Your tutor will be there to support you through the module.

    • Applicants who do not hold an International High School qualification will be expected to undertake a pathway programme at our International College

    English Program Requirements

    Most undergraduate courses require an IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each area. Some courses require a higher English language score. Always check the relevant course page and our English Language Requirements page before applying.

    • Proving that your English language is good enough for University-level study. In this case you should send us a copy of your IELTS or TOEFL certificate as soon as it is available. Please upload these documents to your Apply Yourself record or email the Admissions Office with these.
