    Overview Faculty specializations include chamber music, American music, Japanese contemporary music, music by minority composers, new complexity music, extended instrumental techniques, Baroque string music, and improvisation. Special musical opportunities exist for students through an exchange program with the Nicolini Conservatory in Piacenza, Italy, and through collaborative projects with faculty and international graduate students in the Department’s Certificate Program in American Contemporary Music.Goals and Objectives of the Instrumental Performance program at University of Maryland Baltimore CountyPromote the highest levels of human aspiration and artistic integrity through the composition, documentation, and performance of music.Develop an analytical, creative, and intuitive understanding of music as a cultural language.Afford students opportunities for cultural and aesthetic experiences through active participation in music, enhance their understanding and appreciation of the arts, and foster interaction between music and the liberal arts.Enrich the campus and the region through concerts, workshops, and other public events, and provide opportunities for traditional and contemporary musical expression by students, faculty, guest artists, and members of the community.
