    About

    This course enables you to develop knowledge and understanding of CBT based treatment interventions for common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. This includes CBT assessment and formulation, and the application of established CBT interventions such as behavioural activation, graded exposure and cognitive restructuring.

    This award is suitable for those working in a health and/or social care context who wish to acquire knowledge of the underpinning theory of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), fundamental CBT principles and common interventions used for the treatment of depression and anxiety.

    In addition to gaining a theoretical knowledge, you develop fundamental CBT skills and interventions, which can be used to enhance your clinical practice.

    How you learn

    Teesside University's Future Facing Learning initiative underpins all of our modules and alongside the main content, the module seeks to equip you with the skills to work collaboratively using the latest technology. Teaching methods include lectures, role play skills rehearsals, tutorials and self-directed learning. Alongside face-to-face sessions, our teaching methods utilise our virtual learning environment (VLE) to provide you with between session reading and activities to enhance your knowledge and understanding.

    There are two assessment components:
    > a 20-minute simulated assessment using a CBT framework > a viva style structured discussion where you answer questions based upon your assessment.

    Entry Requirements

    Community college diploma with 65% minimum

    Or, holders of a a Tawjihi 65%+ average plus a recognised foundation programme

    Or, holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 27 points or more will be considered for direct admission to Bachelor degree courses

    Career

    If you wish to enhance your understanding of the cognitive behavioural therapeutic skills with a view to eventually undertaking formal CBT training this award is suitable for you.
