    Our MSc Intelligent Maintenance Engineering degree will prepare you for a thriving career at the heart of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution as advancements in artificial intelligence and smart machinery transform the way we work forever.

    Todays world demands high efficiency, quality and reliability from industry; products have to be made fast and without defects. This is only possible through the implementation of intelligent maintenance strategy in factories, plants and industry in general. Maintenance strategies are central to the smooth operation of complex industrial processes in a wide range of industries, including the automotive, pharmaceutical, nuclear, petrochemical and aerospace industries.

    On this course youll learn how to apply the latest maintenance techniques to increase productivity and reduce intensive labour. As the so-called ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution takes shape, industry requires highly skilled professionals who are able to work and interact with automatic processes and machines; this is also true with maintenance.

    Maintenance is becoming more automatic and smart, requiring professionals with the skills to deal with Intelligent Systems. New technologies are completely transforming the world we live in, and this course will enable you to take a leading role in Industry 4.0 – youll learn all about machine intelligence, intelligent maintenance engineering, renewable energy technology, condition monitoring systems, and much more.

    What youll do

    • Youll have the chance to undertake an industry placement to enhance your skills, apply the knowledge youve developed on the course, and boost your career prospects.
    • Youll benefit from outstanding facilities in tribology, surface engineering and intelligent condition monitoring, with a wide range of laboratory and industrial-scale equipment and computer modelling facilities.
    • Our Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) features state-of-the-art facilities, including materials testing laboratories; engineering, CNC and 3D printing workshops; a rapid prototyping suite; Intelligent Conditioning Monitoring lab; and Intelligent Structural Health Monitoring lab.
    • Youll benefit from our new £35 million Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC), an integrated space for teaching and research with direct links to industry, enabling you to work on live, real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities.
    • Were located within one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing areas of the UK.
    • Youll get to work alongside our research active staff, with the possibility of continuing on to PhD research, and youll also have opportunities to work closely on industrial, research and EU projects
