Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree Programme (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science)

    About

The Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree Programme comprises two subjects (first and second subject) and the professional skills development area involving important interdisciplinary skills (Education, Psychology and Key Transferable Skills). Students with a school-based specialisation may go on to take the Teacher Training Course for Grammar Schools; those with a non-school-based specialisation may choose to pursue a career in a different field. Students do not need to commit to either of these two specialisations before embarking on the degree programme! It goes without saying that students who choose the non-school-based specialisation do not need to gain teaching skills in the professional skills development area. As an alternative, they have the option of obtaining key transferable skills (e.g. foreign language skills, moderation techniques, project management skills, etc.). The first subject is studied in greater depth than the second subject; in addition, the Bachelors thesis must be written in the first subject. Provision is made for two periods of practical training during the degree programme: As part of the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree programme, students with a focus on teaching have to complete a non-school-based internship as well as a school internship, both lasting four weeks. The non-school-based internship helps students to get first work insights in the area of teaching, to check on their career aspiration. For students with an non-school-based focus, an eight-week non-school-based internship must be completed.

Prospective students wishing to enter the teaching profession should enjoy working with people. In addition to having good communication and social skills, they should also be able to deal with conflict and committed to conveying knowledge. Depending on the subjects students choose, additional skills are recommended in the descriptions of those subjects.
