    Overview


    The University of Northampton’s Interior Architecture & Spatial Design (IASD) BA (Hons) course gives you the opportunity to be part of a challenging and rewarding experience, both in terms of your personal development and for your vocational aspirations. With its combination of visual communication, spatial design awareness and professional practice skills, together with your development as a questioning individual, your enthusiasm and endeavours will make your vision a success.

    Our interior architecture and spatial design degree curriculum engages with real local, regional and global issues through which we seek innovative spatial, sustainable and technical solutions. IASD provides students with an appreciation for and an understanding of place making. We work with light, material and surface qualities to propose places that have distinctive atmospheres.

    The structure of our IASD BA (Hons) course enables students to develop challenging design solutions that benefit society as well as contributing to their broader understanding of interior architectural design as a professional pathway.

    A typical offer for Interior Architecture & Spatial Design would be:

    • BCC at A-Level or,
    • DMM at BTEC/Cambridge Technical or,
    • Pass (C and above) at T Level

    A Foundation Diploma in Art and Design will also be accepted. We also consider students with wide variety of industry skills, please contact the admissions office for more information on this.

    • Applicants are interviewed and are requested to provide a portfolio of their own work in Art and Design. International students may submit their portfolio electronically.

      Students with a relevant HND or Foundation Degree with a suitable profile of achievement may be admitted on to year two or three.

      We welcome applications from students with a mix of A levels and BTEC/Cambridge Technical qualifications.

    • Admission to this foundation Interior Architecture & Spatial Design programme is normally:

      • DEE at A-Level or,
      • MPP at BTEC or,
      • Pass (D or E) at T Level

      However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the programme you wish to study.

    • Once your application for Interior Architecture & Spatial Design has been reviewed, you may be invited to attend a portfolio review with us.

      Prior to your portfolio review you will be asked to send in a digital portfolio of some of your work. We’d like to see 10 examples of your best work, and this can include sketches, model making, sketchbook work demonstrating idea development, and any final pieces of work you may have.

      Your portfolio review will be with a member of the programme team and you’ll go over your portfolio with them. They’ll ask you some questions around your work and your interest in the course. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask them any questions you may have about the course.

      We hold our Interior Architecture & Spatial Design chats online and it will take around 30 minutes.

    • All International and EU students applying for a course with the University of Northampton must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

      • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands
        for study at undergraduate level.
