International Business with a Year Abroad and Integrated Foundation Year

    About

The International Business with a Year Abroad and Integrated Foundation Year BSc (5 years) combines a three-year degree in International Business with a bespoke foundation year, and a year abroad at a partner institution. This route can provide you with a pathway to a bachelor's degree, if your prior education or English language proficiency does not enable you to apply for the BSc degree.

The BSc programme will equip you with the skills you need to analyse complex business issues and operate effectively in business organisations. In the third year of your degree, you will spend a year abroad at one of our international partner universities, where you'll benefit from exposure to a different cultural setting.

    You'll have the opportunity to:

    • Examine the key strategic issues and challenges that organisations face in their efforts to compete in a globalised world.
    • Learn to apply theoretical concepts to case studies, and make reasoned and substantiated judgments.
    • Study topics such as: international competitive strategies, globalisation, regional studies, economics, information and communication technologies, data analytics, global supply chains, cross-cultural management, global sustainability and global marketing.
    • Explore the institutional and social contexts that inform the execution of business.
Develop an in-depth understanding of the international business landscape.

    Teaching and learning

Teaching and research are based on three pillars: governance; social justice and sustainability; as well as the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

You'll receive approximately two hours of weekly contact time per module, comprising lectures led by academic staff and smaller seminar groups.

For every hour spent in class, you'll complete a further two to three hours of independent study. You'll have access to well-designed resources for this self-directed study, and we will pair you with an academic advisor to support your progress at all stages of your degree.

    Assessment

Assessment typically includes a combination of coursework (presentations, assignments, essay report writing, in-class tests, research and project work) and examinations in May or June.

    Resources and facilities

The School offers excellent on-campus resources to aid your studies, including:

    • A purpose-built media suite designed to support student entrepreneurship.
    • A dedicated Internships Coordinator to help with work experience opportunities and applications.
    • A free four-day leadership development course for third year students, providing practical leadership training outside the classroom.
