    About

The University of Tasmania International First Year Diploma – Business (UTAS IFYD-Bus) programme has been developed to meet the needs of students who are academically capable of undertaking undergraduate study at university but require extra Academic English language support in their first year. These students will also benefit from a targeted introduction to academic, cultural, social and practical aspects of study at the University of Tasmania which may differ from the diverse international backgrounds they come from.

Honours aims to provide experience and training in research in pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical science or pharmacology. This overall objective is served by the following goals:

    • to extend knowledge and understanding in specific topics of interest in pharmacy and related sciences,
    • to improve skills in critically reading the literature and communicating effectively in science,
    • to learn particular research methods and techniques,

to develop the ability to plan and carry out a research project, and to prepare a thesis on  the results.

    Career

Honours students specialise in a particular field of study and at the same time are exposed to a range of opportunities for undertaking higher degrees and following careers in pharmacy practice or the pharmaceutical sciences. Choice of a particular Honours research topic does not mean that a student undertaking further studies (e.g. Masters or PhD) is required to continue in the same project area.

As a pharmacy graduate, the development of the profession of pharmacy over time will largely be determined by the health care roles and skills performed by pharmacists such as yourself and your colleagues. To enable pharmacy to continue to be a profession with value and standing within the community, best practice facilitated by research is paramount.

    Professional Recognition

An Honours degree in Pharmacy enhances career opportunities and is the usual prerequisite for further study for a research higher degree (Master of Pharmacy or Doctor of Philosophy). Research Higher Degrees are generally expected for positions in the pharmaceutical industry, academia or government regulatory agencies.
