    The International Postgraduate Certificate of Education (with International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS)) is a new, UK government-backed international teaching qualification, recognised by the Department for Education (DfE), as equivalent to

    The DfE has appointed University of Derby as an accredited provider for the new International Postgraduate Certificate of Education (with International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS) Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme / qualification pilot year. iQTS is recognised as equivalent to English QTS by DfE, meaning that anyone who is awarded the iQTS qualification by an accredited ITT provider, will be eligible to apply for professional QTS status through the DfE.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • Students must have completed a subject relevant Bachelors degree with an overall score of 'Good' or above (2.25 GPA) from a recognised university in Jordan
    • For postgraduate research degrees, PhD applicants are expected to have a masters as well as a bachelors degree in the relevant subject areas. Most importantly applicants must submit a research proposal.

    The IPGCE with iQTS gives you a highly respected route into primary teaching, across the world.

    As a graduate of this course and ultimately becoming a teacher with internationally recognised qualified teacher status, you can pursue a career in teaching anywhere in the world, including in England. You may go into roles such as subject coordinator into a pastoral role. Ultimately, this course will hopefully increase your knowledge and confidence to go into leadership roles in schools.

    You may choose to support the next generation of trainee teachers but stepping into a Mentoring role yourself. You will also be able to apply for English QTS from the UK government Department for Education.

    Upon completing this course, you may wish to go on to complete a full Masters award such as our online MA Education which offers specialist pathways in Leadership and Management or TESOL. It would then be possible for you to progress onto Doctoral level study such as our Doctor of Education EdD (online).

    How to Apply

    Before you begin your application make sure you have:

    • Your qualification details including grades and dates taken. You will have the opportunity to upload scanned copies of your qualification certificates/transcripts in the application. If you have no formal qualifications, you can also state this in your application
    • A scanned copy of your passport or other official photographic ID e.g. photo driving licence. This will help us verify your application to study with us. If you do not have any photo ID, we will accept a scanned copy of your birth certificate. International applicants can only provide a copy of their passport for visa assessment purposes
    • Your work experience (optional). You can upload a CV into your application or provide the company names and addresses of up to three of your employers
    • A personal statement showing your interest for the course/subject. This is a mandatory requirement and you will be able to upload it into your application. You may want to include your reasons for applying for the course, your experience in the field, how you feel you would benefit from studying and relevant information about your previous studies. You could also tell us about your non-academic experiences such as hobbies, interests, participation in any clubs, societies or voluntary work
    • A relevant reference for the course you have applied for. The reference should be in written format and supplied on company-headed paper, signed and dated from either a manager, supervisor, tutor or teacher
    • If you need to supply two references, this usually means you need to provide one academic reference from any recent study and one employer reference
