    About

    The module is an ideal opportunity for the registered nurses to refresh their knowledge or the senior staff within a residential/domiciliary care setting to increase their knowledge and understanding in line with current standards.

    This is an award of Teesside University delivered at Stockton Riverside College (01642 865400).

    This module is designed for those involved in management and administration of medicines whilst working within the social care sector.

    You will cover:

    • Legislation Protecting the Public
    • Medicines Act, Human Medicines Regulations 2012, Misuse of Drugs Act, Care standards, Data Protection Act, local policies and procedures
    • Roles and responsibilities of those involved in prescribing, dispensing, administering, storing and disposing of medicines including consent and refusal
    • Classification of medication; maintaining therapeutic levels
    • Types of medication; to include a wide range of prescribed and over the counter medication
    • Controlled drugs
    • Routes of administration
    • Record keeping
    • Disposal of medicines
    • Maintaining standard precautions to include hygiene, handling, correct dosage, safe administration, storage
    • Adverse reactions and responding to these appropriately

    Candidates are expected to be working with clients or relevant work experience placement within a professional framework in order to apply their learning on this course.

    Assessment is through completion of a workbook.

    Entry Requirements

    Community college diploma with 65% minimum

    Or, holders of a a Tawjihi 65%+ average plus a recognised foundation programme

    Or, holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 27 points or more will be considered for direct admission to Bachelor degree courses

    Career

    You could move on to the UCCE Level 5 Managing Medication Systems or a relevant higher education certificate, diploma or degree.
