Do you love history and want to work in a library or archives? Students in the joint degree program earn both a Master of Arts (M.A.) in History and a Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) from Wayne State's School of Information Science (SIS). Wayne State's M.L.I.S. program is fully accredited by the American Library Association, which means graduates of our joint degree program are certified to work in secondary school, public, private and academic libraries. Wayne State offers the only joint MA/MLIS in Michigan and is one of only a handful of such programs in the country.

The joint degree program combines intellectual rigor with convenience and flexibility. All M.L.I.S. courses are offered online, and history courses are offered both online and at our campus in the heart of Detroit's cultural center. We're now accepting applications for a fully online MA/MLIS degree, which makes earning a joint degree more convenient and more accessible than ever.
Students interested in the archival field may elect to complete a Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration, which requires two additional courses beyond those taken for the joint degree.
