    About

    This MA is for you if you have a passion for news, current affairs, documentary or any aspect of factual programme-making. It offers a practical training in, and critical engagement with, journalism and documentary-making.

    This MA combines theory and practice. We focus on fast-changing developments in journalism and documentary practice. You’ll learn how to:

    • create informed and engaging journalism – for print or radio and tv (off or online) – to a professional standard
    • develop your visual and verbal storytelling
    • research, shoot and edit documentaries about the topics that interest you most
    • project manage, schedule, budget and distribute your documentary work
    • contextualise your practice through critical study of current media developments.
    We offer excellent technical facilities. These include a newsroom, the latest software, video and radio studios, and a suite of digital media laboratories.

    Degree requirementsBachelors degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.0/5.0 or 2.8/4.0.Subject-specific requirementsYour qualification should be in a relevant social sciences or humanities subject. You can also apply for the course if you don’t have the academic qualifications required, but can show relevant professional/creative skills and experience.Please noteOur entry requirements are guidelines and we assess all applications on a case-by-case basis.

    English Program Requirements

    IELTS (Academic)

    Standard level (6.0 overall, including at least 5.5 in each component).

    IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date. You cannot combine scores from more than one sitting of the test. Your score must be valid when you begin your Sussex course. Find out more about IELTS
