    Judaic Studies (Certificate NDP)

    About

    The Judaic Studies Graduate Certificate is a stand-alone Certificate Program within The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies.  It is designed to enhance the education of graduate or professional students, or to provide continuing education to professionals. Upon completion, students will have have knowledge about Jewish Culture in its various dimensions and have the ability to contextualize the discipline of Judaic Studies.

    Student Learning Outcomes
    *knowledge beyond the baccalaureate level about Jewish Culture in its various dimensions; historical, religious, ethnic, material, literary, linguistic, and more
    *ability to understand sophisticated research approaches within Judaic Studies, to manage their complexity and to be aware of their epistemological evolution
    *preparation for more advanced graduate work in which students will explore Judaic Studies issues in their masters theses and doctoral dissertations at The University of Arizona or elsewhere
    *contextualize the discipline of Judaic Studies, notably in conjunction with contemporary ethinic, religious and diversity issues
    *ability to use Judaic Studies as a specialization or concentration in disciplinary area studies such as Political Science, History and Philosophy, and in interdisciplinary area studies such as German Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Religious Studies and Near Eastern Studies

    The Certificate Program has three foci:

    • History and Culture of Ancient Israel
    • Modern Jewish History and Culture
    • Gender and Jewish Studies

    Admissions Requirements

    Graduate Certificate students must possess a baccalaureate degree and must meet all University of Arizona Graduate College requirements. Concurrent enrollment in a degree program is allowed, but no more than six (6) units from that other degree program may be applied to this Certificate Program. Up to six (6) previously earned credits may be transferred from UA graduate courses taken under Non-Degree Status or from graduate courses taken at another accredited university or college. These credits may not have been earned more than two years prior to admission into the Graduate Certificate Program. The Graduate Program Director must approve all transfer courses, once they have been approved by UA Admissions and/or the Graduate College.

    Funding Opportunities

    The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies does not currently offer scholarships for Graduate Certificate students.

    • International applicants to Arizona Online campus, Global Direct campus, or a Global Microcampus should choose the Distance Learner (DL) visa type in their Application Profile.
    • International applicants to the Main campus must currently hold a US visa that permits incidental study. 
    • Please verify your visa eligibility with International Student Services before applying.  The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa status is not eligible.  
    • Applicants must meet all Graduate College minimum admission requirements, including English proficiency.
    • Applicants should be prepared to submit copies of their visa documents, additional transcripts, or degree documentation if requested.
