About

In the Masters degree programme in Landscape Architecture, aesthetic and social scientific content and methods are combined with scientific and technical knowledge, enabling students to tackle the complex challenges of todays world from a spatial perspective. Students acquire advanced specialist knowledge of the history of nature, landscape and the city, providing them with a solid basis that is applied to projects, which represent a core element of the programme. A close connection between research and teaching enables students to tackle todays major challenges in depth such as dealing with the impact of climate change, the wave of urbanisation experienced throughout the world, and demographic change. To accommodate the complexity of these issues, we place importance on the methodological development of differentiated knowledge of systems, transformation and implementation within our subject. The fact that the degree programme is integrated in the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences means that students can engage in interdisciplinary debate with their future planning partners in the realms of architecture, urban planning and urban design. At the Masters stage, students increasingly come across international issues, which they can expand on by taking the specialisation European Master in Landscape Architecture (EMiLA) or by spending a semester abroad at one of our partner institutions.

An undergraduate degree in a related field of study, such as

Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (Bachelor of Science)

Please note that an application folder must be submitted for the application in addition to the regular application documents. The application folder includes a motivation letter as well as work samples (DIN A4 format).

For master's degree programmes with restricted admission, places shall be allocated according to the universityâ€™s own selection procedure, if there are more applicants fulfilling the admission requirements than there are places available. How to Apply

You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
