Language Proficiency

Certificates allow you to complete a specific group of university courses (for credit) as either part of your degree studies or separately. .

At York, we understand that proficiency in a foreign language is a vital tool for work in many disciplines and we make it easy to integrate language courses into the rest of your studies.

Current York University students may earn a certificate of proficiency concurrent with fulfillment of the requirements for a bachelor? degree. Certificates of proficiency may also be open to students who already hold a bachelor? degree from an accredited institution, and who are admissible according to Faculty and University policies.

If your first language is not English, you must show you have an acceptable level of English by completing a language proficiency test.

If you have completed at least one full year at an accredited university in a country where English is the official language of the institution, you may be exempt from this requirement.
