    About

    Student societies

Along with your studies we encourage our students to join one of our Law societies:

    • The Dundee University Law Society is one of the biggest and most active societies on campus and helps build your Law network.
    • The Dundee International Law Society is a student-led society that arranges seminars, debates, colloquia and presentations on international law problems and prospects.
    • The Law Review is a publication run by students and reviewed by academics to ensure high academic standards. This is an ideal opportunity to gain legal editing and writing experience.
    • Our Mooting society provides training and practice in advocacy. Each year members participate in national and international competitions, including at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
    • The Telders International Law Moot Court Competition provides an opportunity for law students with an interest in public international law to hone their skills in front of leading experts and compete against teams from across Europe.

You can read more about the successes of our Law societies here.

    Career

Dundee's 3 year LLB in English Law satisfies the academic component of training to become a barrister in England & Wales and is a recognised law degree for the purposes of admission to the Institute of Professional Legal Studies and qualification for the legal professions in Northern Ireland.

The English Law LLB provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to take the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE) or indeed to qualify as lawyers in many common law jurisdictions globally. For example, each year Dundee graduates from Canada and Nigeria return home to complete their national legal practice qualifications. We maintain strong ties to the NCA and other common law regulatory bodies to ensure that our students know what steps to take to complete their national qualifications.

Dundee law graduates have gone onto secure training contracts and develop successful careers at home and abroad with leading law firms and top ranked Chambers. These include Freshfields, Linklaters, Clifford Chance, Shearman & Sterling, CMS, Kingsley Napley as well as at leading Chambers including Essex Court Chambers and 1 GC Family Law.
Our English LLB graduates have also reached the highest levels of the judiciary, including at the Old Bailey and the European Court of Human Rights.

Dundee graduates have also used their law degrees, and the transferable skills they have acquired, to achieve success in many other fields, including rising to the highest levels of the Diplomatic Service.
