    About

Certificates allow you to complete a specific group of university courses (for credit) as either part of your degree studies or separately. .

Offered by the Department of Philosophy at York's Glendon campus, the Certificate in Law and Social Thought studies law within both a humanities and a social science context. Courses treat law as an evolving enterprise, in which moral argument, distinctive, interpretative practices, and force are applied to the organization of social life. Some course offerings emphasize the moral and philosophical dimensions that inform legal life and link the study of law with social and political thought. Others focus on legal institutions: how they yield regulation and socially sanctioned force, and how they interact with society.

What's more, students at Glendon are given the opportunity to become fluent in both English and French.

Please note: the Certificate in Law and Social Thought is not a pre-law preparatory program.

    Who can take it?

This certificate is open only to current York students pursuing a degree.
