    About

Law is an inspiring, dynamic and relevant subject. It is always expanding and adapting to absorb new ideas and ask new questions of the past. Studying Law will also help you develop practical skills valued by employers, such as the ability to collect and analyse data and to construct a clear argument.

It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications.

The Foundation Year (Year 0) offers you the chance to expand and strengthen your confidence, skills and knowledge – ensuring that you are well-prepared and qualified to progress into Year 1 of the undergraduate degree.

Why choose Bangor University for this course?

    • Supportive study environment with dedicated a moot court room, law library and small classes which enable you to have extensive access to your lecturers.

    Additional Course Options

    Placement Year

This course is available with a Placement Year option where you will study for 1 additional year. The Placement Year is undertaken at the end of the second year and students are away for the whole of the academic year.

The Placement Year provides you with a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons and develop valuable skills and contacts through working with a self-sourced organisation relevant to your degree subject. The minimum period in placement (at one or more locations) is seven calendar months; more usually you would spend 10-12 months with a placement provider. You would normally start sometime in the period June to September of your second year and finish between June and September the following year. Placements can be UK-based or overseas and you will work with staff to plan and finalise the placement arrangements.

You will be expected to find and arrange a suitable placement to complement your degree and will be fully supported throughout by a dedicated member of staff at your academic School and the University’s Careers and Employability Services.

You will have the opportunity to fully consider this option when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto this pathway at the appropriate time. Read more about the work experience opportunities that may be available to you or, if you have any questions, please get in touch.

    International Experience Year

This course is available with an International Experience Year option where you will study or work abroad for 1 additional year. You will have ‘with International Experience’ added to your degree title on graduating.

Studying abroad is a great opportunity to see a different way of life, learn about new cultures and broaden your horizons. With international experience of this kind, you’ll really improve your career prospects. There are a wide variety of destinations and partner universities to choose from. If you plan to study in a country where English is not spoken natively, there may be language courses available for you at Bangor and in your host university to improve your language skills.

You will have the opportunity to fully consider this option at any time during your degree at Bangor and make your application. If you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch.

    Career

A Bangor Law degree opens up exciting career paths in law and in many other challenging and rewarding areas where you can make a difference to other people's lives and the planet.

Throughout your studies you’ll acquire the academic knowledge and be introduced to the skills needed to pursue a legal career should you wish to go on to qualify as a solicitor or barrister. You may wish to work in the public sector, for example, as a government lawyer, or in the private sector, perhaps specialising in commercial law, immigration law or criminal law. This degree is recognised by the Bar Council of India.

If you don’t want to practise as a solicitor or barrister, you may still wish to work in an area where your legal training and knowledge would be advantageous and where you can work to make a positive difference. For example, many non-governmental organisations (charities) require people with legal backgrounds to work as policy officers, campaigners and advice workers. International organisations, such as the United Nations and the Council of Europe offer tremendous opportunities to those who are looking for an international career.

As an LLB Law graduate, you will be able to pursue career opportunities in a wide range of other areas, not necessarily connected to the law but for which the general and intellectual skills acquired during a law degree make you extremely well qualified. These may include the civil service, journalism, the media and creative industries, the probation service, the police and the prison service.

During your time at Bangor we work hard to ensure you become aware of the many opportunities that lie ahead of you as a graduate.

    • The School works closely with the University’s Skills and Employability Service to provide you with essential information to allow you to make key decisions about your future.
    • The School’s Employability Officer works to assist students in finding work experience, including internships and placements.
    • If you take the Work Placement module, you will have the chance to experience legal work in a real-life situation.
    • The Students’ Union has a dedicated Student Volunteering Office which offers many opportunities to work with the local community.
    • Students have access to the TargetConnect service, where students can find local, national and international employment during and after their studies.
    • Each student has the opportunity to obtain The Higher Education Achievement Report. The HEAR provides you with a report that itemises your academic achievements as well as any extra and co-curricular achievements and is an invaluable addition to any CV.
