    Specialise in Lighting for your Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology at Massey

    The Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology allows you to update your knowledge and skills in an area similar to that in which you graduated (or work in).

    Lighting is a unique specialisation you can focus on. You may already have a degree and are considering specialising in this area, or you are a professional working in a related field and want to upskill. This qualification is ideal for you if you are an engineer, sales rep, product designer, architect, or interior designer.

    What will you learn?

    You’ll learn the fundamentals of lighting from the basic terms to key design principles, as well as lighting technology. You will have access to Massey’s high-tech facilities where you’ll be able to put some of your knowledge into practice.

    Your lecturers are industry experts so they can provide you with not only basic knowledge that is at the cutting edge of lighting but also in specialist areas.

    The qualification includes an optional week-long series of immersive workshops in the Massey lab in Auckland.

    Specific requirements

    To enter the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology you will have:

    • been awarded or qualified for a relevant bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in the area you wish to study, or
    • accepted as having equivalent status to a university graduate on the basis of equivalent relevant professional experience.

    Other entry requirements

    You will also have a background adequate for the courses you wish to study.

    You will need to have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with passing grades in electrical engineering, electronics, physics, or design, or architecture or a related area. Pre-requisites are important but can be waived if you have appropriate industry or professional experience.

    You will need to provide copies of all official academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

    English language requirements

    To study this qualification you must meet Massey University's English language standards.

    Can't meet the entry requirements?

    If you do not have the necessary background for the GCertScTech (Lighting) courses then pre-requisite courses are available in the Certificate in Science and Technology.

    English Program Requirements

    English Evidence Academic IELTS^: 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in each band
    English Evidence TOEFL iBT: Overall score 90, minimum 20 in Writing
    English Evidence Pearson Test of English (PTE): 58 overall and minimum 50 in each communicative skills
