The Local Food Systems Certificate at UGA is a service-learning certificate that addresses issues surrounding the local food industry: environmental, production, nutrition, culture, policy, and decision-making.
Available courses include but are not limited to food production, fighting hunger, anthropology of eating, the Athens urban food collective, sustainable agriculture, organic gardening, herbs and medicinal plants, resource economics, food safety and quality, and geography of food.
An internship supplements course work through partnership with the community. Previous students have participated in the UGArden, Clarke County School Garden Program, Georgia Organics, and many others.
