Manual Therapy

About

This module will explore:

Risk assessment for manual therapy, including spinal manipulation
Principles of osteopathic and chiropractic treatment
Common manual therapy models e.g. Maitland, Cyriax
Indications and precautions and contraindications for high velocity low amplitude thrust techniques in the treatment of mechanical musculoskeletal disorders of the spine and pelvis
Advanced clinical reasoning strategies
Mobility testing
Practical application of manual techniques
Combined movements, MWM's, Nags and snags, myofascial release
Posture and biomechanics of movement dysfunction in spinal disorders
Review of outcome measure

What will I be doing?

Current circumstances, and potential future changes in government advice, mean that we may need to vary the methods of teaching and/or assessment during the forthcoming academic year.

This module is delivered using a range of methods including lectures, master classes, practical workshops, directed study, blended learning and discussion boards.

ASSESSMENT

VIVA Practical 30 minutes 50%

Assignment: Critically debate the efficacy of manual therapy in relation to a hypothetical case study 50%

Requirements

Entry Requirements

Applicants who have successfully passed a diploma from a community college, intermediate diploma or associate degree with an overall mark of C+ or better will be considered for undergraduate entry.

English Program Requirements

Equivalent qualifications

English language requirements are shown on individual course pages. Generally, this is shown as an IELTS grade, however we accept a range of equivalent qualifications.

As a general guide:

For undergraduate courses we require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent

For postgraduate courses, we require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent

For the International Foundation Year, we require IELTS 4.5 (with a minimum 4.0 in each component) in UKVI IELTS for UKVI (Academic)

The approved equivalent qualifications list includes the following:

Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Regional-based qualifications

Majority English Speaking Countries as deemed by UKVI

Medium of English Institutions
