The course allows practicing health professionals to enhance their skills. This course features a strong interdisciplinary approach that draws on a broad range of allied health professions. It develops the knowledge and skills required for advancing health professionals to meet the demands of expanding scopes of practice. The program focuses on contemporary clinical practice in all settings. It provides the flexibility to choose course content that progresses your career development.
You will develop skills in critical thinking and the ability to analyse and problem solve complex issues within the healthcare system. Through the curated selection of units, you will develop strong foundations in leadership, health professional education or clinical practice.
Any combination of optional units may be undertaken however certain unit combinations will lead to credentialing in specific practice areas allowing increased opportunities to undertake further roles within the health system through credentialling that allow pathways to meet continuing professional development requirements. Additionally, the selection of specific unit(s) that are accredited so will allow learners to participate in specific areas including:
- pharmacist prescriber
- medication management reviews
- aged care pharmacy
ADVANCED STANDING
An opportunity to recognise your existing professional development to contribute towards a higher qualification! The advanced standing pathway provides credit for training completed prior to enrolment if the credentialing is current. There is a maximum of 24 points.
Consideration will be given for other postgraduate training deemed appropriate by the course coordinator.
1 point for each of the following:
- Approved to undertake all community pharmacy prescribing pathways in their jurisdiction, medication administration
- Pharmacists approved to undertake vaccinations by their jurisdiction
- Public health service endorsed credentialling to undertake services, e.g. pharmacist-partnered medication charting and therapeutic drug monitoring.
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment
- The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's Deadly Pharmacist course
- The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's General Practice Pharmacist Training
- The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's Aged Care Pharmacist Training
- Lung Health Promotion Centre Smoking Cessation Course
- Lung Health Promotion Centre Asthma Educator course.
3 points for each of the following:
- Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia Foundational Residency completion
- Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia Advanced Practice Residency completion
6 points for each of the following:
- Credentialling to undertake Domiciliary Medication Medicine Reviews through an Australian Pharmacy Council accredited course
- Credentialling to undertake Aged Care Onsite Pharmacist roles through an Australian Pharmacy Council accredited course
- Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Director's Company Director Course
- Certificate in Clinical Governance by the Australasian Institute of Clinical Governance
Please note: Recognition of Prior Learning for relevant postgraduate qualifications will be considered through the RPL pathway and assessed at the time of enrolment. RPL is a different process than Advanced Standing.
