    About

    Hone your leadership, collaborative, creative, and business skills as a practising artist over an intensive 12-month programme. Our Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) is an industry-focused, practical degree that will help you build new contacts and networks in Wellington’s creative industries.

    You’ll take advantage of our capital city location and study at the University’s Kelburn campus. Theatre students will get to work in a fully-equipped theatre space, workshop, and studio based at Te Whare Ngangahau—Theatre and Performance Studies. If you study the Film or Music/Sound programme, you’ll get to use our specially refitted facilities at the Miramar Creative Centre. Design students get access to the cutting-edge facilities at Te Aro campus and Te Auaha building.

    In addition to the programme requirements, for this subject you'll need to:

    Have previously completed a major in Design, Creative Writing, or another approved subject

    Complete the following:

    - 60 points in approved MDI, MDT, MUXD courses

    - DSDN 590

    In addition to the programme requirements, for this subject you'll need to:

    Have previously completed a major in Film or another relevant subject, as determined by the Head of School

    Complete three courses:

    - FILM 404

    - FILM 414

    - FILM 590

    Subject requirements

    In addition to the programme requirements, for this subject you'll need to:

    Have previously completed a major in Music or another relevant subject, as determined by the programme director

    Complete approved courses worth 60 points from:

    - Either NZSM 403 and NZSM 405

    - Or PERF 402 and NZSM 496

    - Or other approved courses from NZSM 400–496 or PERF 400–499.

    Complete NZSM 590

    Subject requirements

    In addition to the programme requirements, for this subject you'll need to:

    Have previously completed a major in Theatre or another relevant subject, as determined by the program director

    Complete the following courses:

    - THEA 411

    - THEA 412

    - THEA 590

    English Program Requirements

    IELTS (Academic): minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0

    TOEFL: minimum score of 90 for the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing

    Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 50)

    Victoria University of Wellington English for Academic Purpose (EAP) programme: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5

    Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or higher, with each skill score no less than 169

    New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL): Level 5 (Academic)

    NZAPA: English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
