    Targeted at professionals and students with varied backgrounds, the Master of High Performance Sport offers flexible part-time and full-time study pathways, commencing in either Autumn or Spring.     Staff are highly respected globally in the field of sport and exercise science, health and human performance with extensive links to industry both locally and internationally. Their work focuses on collaborating with coaches to enhance athlete welfare and highlights the relationships between physical exercise and optimal performance, health and wellbeing in a range of diverse populations. Unique characteristics of the Master in High Performance Sport include its flexible curriculum, exposure to world-leaders in high performance sport and content suited to student-specific learning goals that meet the extensive requirements of industry.

    Subjects are delivered online, and students are able to contextualise their learning to their local industry and community needs as well as experience expertise from world leading sport performance professionals.

    As subjects are delivered online, there is no requirement for international students to leave their home country and work integrated learning experiences can be organised locally.

    Domestic students also have access to the UTS Sport, Exercise & Rehabilitation building at the Moore Park Precinct, where students are supported by world-class infrastructure and state of the art research laboratories alongside several leading sporting organisations. This location provides a unique environment and access to teams and athletic organisations who can also offer students practical placements and internship opportunities.

    Overall, this course ensures graduates are prepared both theoretically and practically to succeed in a competitive, dynamic, and global environment to enable athletes and teams achieve lasting success.

    Course aims

    The Master of High Performance Sport course aims to produce graduates that:

    • Are effective, collaborative and responsive professionals capable of leading, managing and inspiring in the field of high performance sport.
    • Exhibit reflective critical thinking to optimise decision making and enable positive change through creative, effective and evidence-based solutions.
    • Take personal, social and ethical responsibility for their contribution to sport, exercise and health by demonstrating professional sports science practice including ethical considerations, legislated requirements and the service delivery setting.
    • Acquire knowledge of methods to increase performance and reduce injury, and apply a detailed process of planning to deliver high-quality sports performance services and optimised health outcomes for users.
    • Demonstrate professional relationships, effective and sensitive communication techniques, teamwork and engagement with key stakeholders in a multidisciplinary and diverse high performance sport environment.
    • Demonstrate professional cultural competency which contributes to the health and well-being of Indigenous Australians, inclusive of physical, social, emotional and spiritual wellness.

    Admission requirements

    To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

    Applicants must have one of the following:

    • Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in a Sport and Exercise related discipline with a minimum GPA of 5/7

    OR

    • Completed Australian bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study AND a minimum of 5 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant work experience in a health or human services field working in athlete preparation for high performance sport

    Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for C11267 Graduate Certificate in High Performance Sport.

    Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

    For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

    • Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of Service in one of the following formats:
      • 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
      • A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
      • A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
      • An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
      • A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
