The MHK program in Mental Performance Consulting is the only applied (course/internship-based) sport psychology program in Canada preparing students to obtain certification through the joint AASP/CSPA certification program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The title Certified Mental Performance Consultant® or CMPC® is a trademarked gold standard credential within the sport psychology profession. The credential demonstrates and validates the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to work with individuals across the performance spectrum to strengthen mental performance, wellbeing, learning, and growth. It demonstrates to the public, employers, and organizations that practitioners have met the highest standards of professional practice, including completing a combination of educational and work requirements, successfully passing a certification exam, agreeing to adhere to ethical principles and standards, and committing to ongoing professional development. The MHK program helps to meet the most robust requirements of the profession and prepares students to be competitive when seeking future employment in the field.
With an emphasis on relevant courses and a 400-hour supervised internship, the MHK program seeks to enhance the personal, academic, and career development of students. Academic goals include developing multiple competencies related to communication, collaboration, consultation, management, advocacy, professionalism, well-being, and scholarship.
The 20 consecutive month program duration format provides students with the opportunity to enroll in additional courses they may need beyond the compulsory M.S.A.P. program courses to use for certification based on their core training. For instance, additional face-to-face mentored hours may be required to meet CMPC® requirements.
