    Delivered by the Department of Psychiatry and fully accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the Master of Psychiatry is perfect for medical practitioners aiming to elevate their expertise in psychiatry and advance their careers.

    Beyond exploring theoretical concepts and their application to clinical practice, the course provides a deep understanding of cultural and sociocultural diversity within our communities. This perspective equips graduates to understand better the relationship between mental illness and individual experiences in our geographical region and beyond.

    Who is this course for?

    This program is designed for dedicated medical practitioners passionate about improving mental health care and fulfilling the Formal Education Course (FEC) requirements of the RANZCP.

    The Master of Psychiatry (Online) provides a comprehensive education in the core principles and specialties of psychiatry, empowering graduates to deliver outstanding clinical care.

    International students are welcome to study this course. However, please note that this course is not available to international students who require a student visa to study in Australia as it does not meet the onshore study requirements and it is not registered with CRICOS.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission criteria

    To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

    • A postgraduate coursework Doctor of Medicine, or
    • An undergraduate degree in medicine (or equivalent)

    AND

    • At least one year of documented experience as a practising doctor, AND
    • Current medical registration in the country where you are working.

    Meeting the published entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.

    English language requirements

    All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. This may be achieved in a number of ways, including recognised previous study taught and assessed entirely in English or an approved English language test. If you are from a non-English speaking background, the required standard of English for this degree is one of the following English proficiency test scores:

    • If you need to undertake an English language test, you must meet one of the scores* below:

      with writing 27; speaking 18; reading 13; listening 13

    When assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider your previous studies and academic performance.

    The Selection Committee may request additional information to clarify any aspect of an application, according to the University’s Academic Board rules regarding selection instruments.

    Selection into the course is not automatic and is subject to competition and availability of places.
