    You will develop a deep understanding of your scientific speciality, learn to apply business strategies to scientific endeavours, and choose from a diverse range of electives to tailor your learning. The course emphasises practical application, professional skills, and strategic thinking.

    Learning occurs through a blend of theoretical study and hands-on experience, supported by industry collaborations and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Teaching methods are designed to prepare you for real-world challenges, ensuring you can lead at the nexus of science and business.

    Science

    Students select one of five specialisations from the Master of Science, building high-level expertise in their chosen scientific domain:

    • Analytical Chemical Technologies
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Environmental Consultancy and Conservation
    • Mathematical and Statistical Data Science
    • Medical Laboratory Science

    Business

    Students complete a mix of core and elective business and business-science subjects:

    • Core subjects: A series of core business subjects in areas such as leadership and change management, financial management, economics, strategic management and marketing prepares students for future professional practice.
    • Science-business subjects: Students learn to apply a business lens to their scientific practice with two purpose-designed science-business subjects (Science Business Models and Intellectual Property, and Risk Assessment and Management for Science) that articulate the interplay between these two vital disciplines.
    • MBA stream: Students choose from a wide range of elective subjects depending on their area of interest.

    Admission requirements

    To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

    Applicants must have one of the following:

    • Completed Australian doctorate, master’s degree, graduate certificate or graduate diploma, or overseas equivalent, in a field of study related to applicant’s chosen major in the Master of Science

    OR

    • Completed Australian bachelor's degree, or overseas equivalent, in a field of study related to applicant’s chosen major in the Master of Science with a minimum GPA of 5.25/7 and more than 90% of all subjects completed at pass level (conceded pass not included)

    OR

    • Completed Australian bachelor's degree, or overseas equivalent, in a field of study related to applicant’s chosen major in the Master of Science with more than 75% of all subjects completed at pass level (conceded pass not included) AND A minimum of 4 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience

    OR

    • Completed Australian bachelor's degree, or overseas equivalent, in a field of study related to applicant’s chosen major in the Master of Science AND Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) overall minimum score of 550. If completed pre-February 2024, GMAT Exam (includes AWA) with an overall minimum score of 550 with verbal 25, quantitative 35 and AWA 4.0

    Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

    For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

    • Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
      • A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
      • A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
      • A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
      • An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
      • A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
