The Masters degree in Surgery (MCh is designed to enhance the academic and professional development of surgical trainees and to improve patient safety. The MCh provides flexibility, accessibility, and a high-quality learning experience. With a choice of online or blended delivery modes to support your preferred learning style.

Our online delivery mode enables learners to engage fully with programme modules remotely via our digital learning environment.

Our blended delivery mode combines online and in-person modules. Giving you the flexibility of learning remotely while still enjoying the benefits of an on-campus experience.

The combination of academic, scientific research skills, and research output will appeal to graduates intending to apply to surgical training schemes or similar medical specialties.

Successful candidates will hold a primary degree in Medicine and be conferred with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Obstetrics. They should also be selected for the Basic Surgical Training Programme (BST) national programme. Candidates not on the BST programme may be eligible and will be interviewed. Successful candidates should be registered with the Irish Medical Council. Competence in English language equivalent to IELTS 6.5 is required.

Graduates will provide evidence-based practice and research in the field of surgery. Upgraded knowledge, skills and attitudes provide a new dimension to day-to-day care of patients in need of surgical procedures.
