    Masters Program in Political Science

    About

    The two-year master's program in Political Science equips students with advanced formal and statistical data analysis methods.

    Students can specialize and apply their analytical skills in a broad range of areas including international politics, comparative politics, political economy, European societies and politics, and formal and quantitative methods.

    The language of instruction is English.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants need to have a bachelor’s degree in Political Science to be admitted to the master’s program in Political Science (M.A.). A degree in a different field is sufficient if it is recognized as equivalent. The following requirements must be met:

    • a final grade of 2.5 or better,
    • sound knowledge of methods of empirical social research and statistics (grade: 2.5 or better). 

    English Program Requirements

    Language requirements
    You must be very proficient in English. We accept the following as proof of language proficiency:

    • a higher education entrance qualification from a school with English as the language of instruction,
    • a degree in a program of study taught to at least 90 ECTS in English,
    • a certificate of the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) with a score of at least 90 points,
    • the Cambridge ESOL Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or the Cambridge ESOL Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) with Level C or better,
    • a certificate of the International English Language Testing System – Academic Test (IELTS) with an overall band score of at least 6.5,
    • the European Language Certificate (telc) – English University with at least level C1.

    Career

    Graduates of the master's program in Political Science are ideally positioned for jobs requiring the theoretically and analytically rigorous analysis of social problems. Examples of jobs of recent graduates include also careers outside of academia, in such diverse fields as management or policy consulting, market or media research, journalism, government, international organizations, and NGOs.

    Successful master's students are encouraged to continue their studies in the three-year doctoral program offered by the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences, a step taken by a significant number of our graduates. Credits earned during the master's program count towards the doctorate requirements, thus reducing the time needed to complete the doctoral program.

    In the second part of the application process you are allowed to apply for up to three degree programs. All applications are treated equally. In the application form for the “Master in Economics” you can upload your motivation letter and academic essay.
