Prepare for a rewarding career in maternity services with our Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Maternity Care Assistant course.
As the only university in Scotland to offer it, this programme is designed to help existing Maternity Care Assistants (MCAs) develop the skills and attributes necessary to work effectively within a multidisciplinary, woman-centred healthcare environment.
Each term is made up of a short theory block followed by practical placements to integrate and consolidate your learning with skills acquisition, attitudes and behaviours. Topic areas include:
- The professional, ethical and legal role of MCAs
- Working with vulnerable women
- Supporting infant nutrition early years parenting support
You will undertake practice placements within and administered by your NHS Board to ensure you experience a variety of ante and post-natal care settings.
This course is fully funded by the NHS.
This programme is designed to develop the knowledge and skills of existing Maternity Care Assistants (MCAs).
You’ll develop within a stimulating teaching and learning environment that fosters self-directed learning behaviour, research-awareness, graduate attributes and self-reflection.
Places are fully funded by the NHS. You must be an NHS employee to be eligible for this programme and supported by your manager.
This programme meets the requirements for professional proficiency and fitness to practice in relation to the achievement of MCA Competencies (NES, 2006).
