    Mathematical Finance

    About

    Mathematical finance is a dynamic new branch of mathematics. Now, more than ever, mathematics grads are sought after by top financial institutions. To help meet this need, enter this specialization for mathematics majors at Trent. Dive in and develop your mathematical modelling, data analysis, and computational skills using statistics, linear programming, and stochastic processes. You'll learn how best to apply these techniques to finance and investment strategy and market models.

    Graduating students who have fulfilled the requirements for a single-major Honours degree in Mathematics may apply for a Specialization in Mathematical Finance, if they have also successfully completed the following 6.5 credits:

    • 5.0 MATH credits consisting of MATH 2150H, 2180H, 2560H, 3150H, 3160H, 3350H, 3510H, 3560H, 3570H, and 4510H
    • 1.5 ECON credits consisting of ECON 1010H, 1020H, and 3020H

    Note

    • The following courses are recommended: COIS 1020H, MATH 4120H, MATH 4560H.

    Financial and investment analysts collect and analyze financial information such as economic forecasts, trading volumes and the movement of capital, financial backgrounds of companies, historical performances and future trends of stocks, bonds and other investment instruments to provide financial and investment or financing advice for their company or their company's clients. Their studies and evaluations cover areas such as takeover bids, private placements, mergers or acquisitions. Financial analysts are employed by a wide range of establishments throughout the private and public sector, such as banks, brokerage houses, insurance companies, investment companies, manufacturing firms, trust companies, utility companies and underwriting firms. Investment analysts are employed primarily by brokerage houses and fund management companies.

    Access Codes:

    If you are currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school, guidance counsellors will provide you with access codes (school number, student number, temporary PIN) to access the OUAC site and application process.

    All other applicants will create user profiles on the OUAC site and will not require access codes.
