Opportunities for PhD research are available in a wide range of topics concerning the application of Probability theory to Actuarial Science. Students may enter our graduate programme in Actuarial Science by initially taking our taught M.Sc. course over 1 year. This, subject to satisfactory progress, can lead to admission to the PhD programme.

Entry Requirements

For master’s programmes we consider a first degree from a recognised Jordanian university with a high percentage or GPA.

Jordanian master’s degrees from recognised universities (classified as Merit or above, or equivalent) are generally considered for PhD entry at The University of Manchester.

English Program Requirements

The UK Visa and Immigration Authority (UKVI) requires that every student requiring a visa to study in the UK must show evidence of a minimum level of English language (Common European Framework (CEFR) B2 level) in order to be granted a Student Route visa (previously known as a Tier 4 visa) to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

In addition, our academic Schools may require applicants to demonstrate English proficiency above B2 level, as the academic content of a UK degree can be linguistically demanding. Academic English entry requirements vary by course, and can be found on individual course profiles.

How to Apply

Make a note of the application deadline, if there is one. We generally advise youto apply as early as possible. If you are applying to a specific programme with attached funding, application deadlines are often at the beginning of December, or even earlier for the start of the programme the following September. If you are planning to apply for a scholarship or award that is not attached to a particular project, it is normally stipulated that you hold an offer of a place from the University before applying, so you are encouraged to apply early.
