Course information
Our mechanical engineering degree provides the specialist knowledge and expertise required for a professional career in mechanical engineering. Project-based learning in all years, including live industry-led projects, will help you develop transferable skills and multi-disciplinary awareness.
Study mechanical engineering and in Year 1 of the degree we'll establish the fundamentals of engineering science, mathematics, and practical and project skills. In Year 2, you will further develop your scientific and analytical skills through study of solid mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanical design principles. You will take on a specialist role in a multi-disciplinary group project and start detailed planning of your career. Specialist modules and projects in Year 3 – all of which are informed by the Department of Engineering’s active research and industrial partnerships – will give you experience of the latest engineering challenges faced by industry and society.

Part-time course applicants: You should be working in an appropriate discipline, have 2 years professional experience and hold a HNC/HND or equivalent. Possible entry direct into Year 2 with HND. Equivalent qualifications considered and each application is considered on merit.

IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 26 or minimum 104 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects, to include HL Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches
