    BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. The accredited BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering meets, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and students will need to complete an approved format of further learning pursuant to the requirements of UK-SPEC.

    The accredited BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering also automatically meets in full, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

    Accreditation for MEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from IMechE will be sought in due course.

    Dr Les Hutchison Undergraduate Scholarship

    This scholarship scheme will see £2,000 being awarded annually to one student to support the student experience in the Honours year of undergraduate study.

    Edmund Abekhe is hoping to build a successful career in the engineering industry thanks to the University’s career-focused Mechanical Engineering degree.

    Edmund, who is in fourth year of BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, decided to study at UWS due to its long history of excellence in the field of engineering.

    Edmund said: “I already had it in mind to study mechanical engineering from a young age due to my family members who were also engineers. Growing up surrounded by engineers as well as being interested in the world of design and manufacture drove me on study Mechanical Engineering. I was keen to study at UWS due to its strong reputation in the area of engineering.”

    Entry Requirements

    Year 1:  Applicants must have completed the Certificate of General Secondary Education plus a relevant Foundation programme or Diploma Year 2:  Community College Diploma

    English Program Requirements

    If you do not fall into any of the categories above you will need to provide proof of your English language ability through the International English Language Test System (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

    Duo Lingo

    For 2022-23 entry, the University has approved the use of the online Duolingo English test as evidence of English language ability. UWS will accept an overall score between 90-115 with no component score below 90.

    Placement Opportunities

    Paid placement is possible at the end of years 2 and 3. In recent years students have undertaken placements with organisations such as Spirit AeroSystems, Doosan Babcock and Rolls Royce.

    Combining your academic studies with paid and relevent work experience during years 2 and 3, can result in you achieving a 'Sandwich' degree award. In order to achieve the sandwich degree award, you must gain a minimum of thirty six weeks’ work experience.

    The purpose of this interview is to assess if students are credible and genuine. At this stage you will need to prepare your CAS documents for review.

    10. Apply for Visa

    International students, including nationals from EEA or Switzerland, would require a student visa to study at UWS London.
