Establish your creative practice in metal fabrication with Temple's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals, Jewelry, CAD-CAM from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. This 126-credit undergraduate degree program is the largest in the nation and unique in its emphasis on CAD-CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing).

Learn traditional techniques, theory and cutting-edge digital practices in jewelry, metals, computer-aided design and 3D printing from faculty who are practicing artists themselves. Design and make jewelry and objects of beauty and utility using advanced tools. Work with a range of materials including gold, silver, aluminum and bronze as well as titanium, resin and plastics.

Practice a broad range of approaches, including traditional metalsmithing, extensive and experimental use of digital fabrication technologies, large-scale electroforming, casting, and laser welding. The faculty's extensive professional networks connect students to internships and other opportunities throughout the local and national metals and jewelry communities.

Philadelphia is a premier center of jewelry-making and a home base for exploring museums and galleries. This, coupled with Temple's resources and research facilities serve as a strong foundation for students' conceptual exploration and advancement of their craft. Students can explore a range of other studio areas as well, learning the fundamentals of studio practice and principles for all visual art expression in addition to traditional vocabulary, theory, media and techniques.                                                                    

Every year, Tyler students benefit from exposure to scores of artists, scholars, architects, designers and professionals who are at the top of their fields. Students meet with these inspiring individuals through lectures, class visits, demonstrations and more–including three diverse lecture series and two major speaker programs, the Jack Wolgin Visiting Artist Program and the Knowles Architecture Alumni Lecture.

Tyler's renowned Critical Dialogue Series, Architecture and Environmental Design Present series, and Laurie Wagman Visiting Artist in Glass series bring influential artists, curators, critics, filmmakers, designers, art historians and more to enrich the Tyler undergraduate experience and interact with students.

1. Make an application plan.

If you’re a first-year applicant, you’ll first want to pick a deadline goal and decide if you’d like to apply Early Action (due Nov. 1) or Regular Decision (due Feb. 1).

2. Apply using the Common Application.

Temple exclusively uses the Common Application. When completing your application for Temple, be sure to indicate whether you’re applying Early Action or Regular Decision if you’re a first-year applicant. Even if you apply before or by the Early Action deadline, you still must indicate Early Action on your application to ensure you will receive an admissions decision early. Transfer applicants do not need to select a deadline preference.

There’s an application fee of $55, which you will submit at the same time as the Common Application unless you qualify for a waiver.
