    About

Students in the research-oriented master's degree program Microbiology must complete a required educational program in the areas of: general and applied microbiology, medical and pharmaceutical microbiology, virology and agricultural and food microbiology. The degree program stands out for its high share of practical work and independent project work. All microbiological systems are addressed with a view to systematic, physiological, molecular-biological and genetic aspects. Among other key qualifications, students learn to independently plan and carry out scientific studies and to document and present scientific results both orally and in written form (also in English). The degree program thus equips students for microbiological and molecular-genetic work in all areas of employment within classic, molecular, and applied microbiology. Possible lines of work: Basic research in microbiology (e.g. Max Planck and Helmholtz Institutes, large-scale research facilities), academia (e.g. research at universities and other research institutions); development, production and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry, at biotechnology companies, food industry, chemical industry, quality assurance (e.g. in the pharmaceutical and food industries), microbiological diagnostics (e.g. hospital laboratories), teaching and training (e.g. at universities, research institutions, training of technical assistants), public administration (public health authorities), industry and trade associations
