    Our specially shortened Midwifery BSc has been developed in partnership with local NHS hospitals, which means that 50% of teaching takes place in London's leading maternity wards.

    You'll gain practical experience in a realistic and safe simulated environment at our new West Stand facility – our state-of-the-art training centre which is known for being one of the best in the UK.

    Accreditations

    This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and leads to eligibility to receive the status as a Registered Midwife. This means the course is professionally recognised for being of the highest quality, focused on developing the knowledge and skills that employers require.

    What you will learn

    Our dedicated team have current first-hand knowledge of the exhilarating but challenging midwife role, both in the UK and internationally.

    They will help you build the resilience needed to support others through pregnancy, childbirth and neonatal care.

    In our highly respected midwifery conversion course, you will develop essential skills for modern midwifery practice. The curriculum includes modules on anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, as well as cultural and sociological issues.

    Your time will be balanced between university learning and practical experience, allowing you to effectively link theory and practice.

    IELTS both online and paper-based exams accepted. Candidates can also re-sit a single component within 60 days of taking their test through IELTS OneSkill. MDX will accept certificates with a OneSKill retake component

    How can the BSc Midwifery with Professional Registration (Shortened Programme for Registered Adult Nurses) support your career?

    Successful students are awarded a BSc(Hons) in Midwifery and are eligible to enter the NMC professional register as a qualified midwife.

    You can go on to work in a range of roles within the NHS, such as perinatal mental specialists, research midwives or working as consultant midwives. Many students continue their careers in our NHS partner trusts. You are also able to progress to a range of taught Masters programmes including the MSc Midwifery Studies and the Midwifery Advanced Clinical Practice Programme.

    Some students go on to work abroad, in Europe and beyond. In order for the qualification to be recognised in EU member states the course must be followed by a year of professional practice.

    Placements

    You will be required to complete 1500 hours of practice during the course. You are typically placed in the same NHS Trust for midwifery placements but may need to travel to other trusts. You will receive induction, supervision, and assessment according to NMC standards, and placement allocation is managed collaboratively by the Trusts and University. You will work a variety of shifts throughout the course, including nights and weekends.
